MS Washers measured in "Lines" (or Suts) are the critical load-distribution components used in traditional Nepalese fabrication and construction. Manufactured from stamped mild steel sheets, these flat circular units are designed to be placed under the head of a bolt or a nut. The structural logic of the "Line" system follows 1/8th-inch increments (1 Sut = 1/8"), covering the range from 1/8" (1 Line) to 3/4" (6 Line). By increasing the bearing surface area, these washers prevent the fastener from pulling through or "sinking" into softer materials like timber or thin-gauge steel sheets. Furthermore, they provide a smooth surface for tightening, protecting the parent material from the rotational friction (galling) caused by the nut or bolt head during the torquing process.
